Self-Help Tip #45: Write In A Journal

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT Medical advice. Please read disclaimers.

Journaling is "writing down thoughts, impressions, feelings, gratitude, and dreams - in an attempt to process emotions more effectively." I've journaled on-and-off since the early '90s (and suspect it has saved me countless hours blabbing to a friend or therapist).

If you feel the need to vent, reflect, or have a non-judgmental outlet:

  1. Obtain a journal and pen
  2. Get comfortable
  3. Write daily, for at least 15 minutes
  4. Don't self-censor (but yes, find a safe place to keep your journal)
  5. Consider writing "Morning Pages" - which author Julia Cameron claims is simply, "the act of moving the hand across the page and writing down whatever comes to mind. (All that angry, whiny, petty stuff that you write down in the morning stands between you and your creativity)" . . .

Do you (want to) journal now?

Shannon
